Coastal Cancer Center continues to act upon its mission to provide quality, state-of-the-art cancer and blood disorder care in Horry County with the expansion of its office in Conway.

Officials gathered with the Conway Chamber of Commerce and community members to celebrate the completion of the three-month project on Monday, December 2. The second floor expansion has added 10 new patient rooms, work stations and a room for events at the facility, located at 817 Farrar Drive in the Rivertown Medical Park.

Coastal Structures, of Georgetown, completed the renovation project.

“Working in an occupied building can be quite problematic, but [the Coastal Cancer Center staff] took the various inconveniences in stride,” Tom Newmister, of Coastal Structures, said. “All of the workers commented on the ‘easy’ atmosphere of the job. After being on site for a few days and observing how well [they] did your jobs and how [they] interacted with the patients, I could sense the overall spirit of concern and encouragement that flowed from the staff. I was pleased to be a small part of this and was encouraged to see the men working with me pick up on the need to show concern for the patients as well.”

Coastal Cancer Center’s Dr. Lawrence Holt says the expansion is a response to the growing need for cancer and blood disorder services in Conway and surrounding areas.

The expansion and addition of more patient rooms will also help Coastal Cancer Center’s staff decrease patient wait times at its Conway location. Dr. Holt says Coastal Cancer Center will have room for four additional providers as a result of the project.
